the mechanical tumor
Mio Iizawa's artificial tumor - a separate entity inside a PC, shrinking or expanding depending on your CPU use, all done with an actuator motor and an air compressor. You start up your Fruity Loops and work on a severely layered track, bam! the tumor expands, shut it down, the tumor shrinks back to its original size. Eerie. (More on Iizawa's works later.) new book of eli trailer
A post-apocalyptic tale, in which a lone man fights his way across America in order to protect a sacred book that holds the secrets to saving humankind.
We've covered this before but I just enveiled the new trailer without Tom Waits but with a decent amount of Mila Kunis and we can now suspect that the Book of Eli is not really a book, it's more like a weapon. Of some sorts.

The mind is a glorious thing to waste and I had five years to shred my gorgeous headmeat into mindflakes being an English major. English majors don't exactly do anything worth their while and their diploma is a strong proof that they speak English more or less, which is, by the way, a strong prerequisite. (So I really, really had to start doing radio shows and copywriting instead of becoming a.... yes, anyways.) And there's also a question of the thesis you have to write and everyone expects you either to write on Shakespearean tragedies, lesbian rapist literary theory (you wish) or postmodernism, this latter being something very trendy at the time. So me, wanting to be trendy and very unique all at once, stuck with cyberpunk, calling it postmodernist science fiction. And trust me, they were hooked. So much that my advisor thought that using a literary theory book on the homosexual white male body from the ancient Greek times to the 20th century could immensely fortify this thing I would write on, you know, hackers in hoodies, energy drinks and metal spikes that you jack into your slut body and you suddenly become an internet with eel porn and Cherenkov squirting videos.
So I actually decided to post this thesis in a few parts, firstly because I will seriously need to post some original stuff here and if it's not, nothing is. (Half of it is stolen, by the way, as it is with all literature theses, you just don't have the balls to admit that.) Secondly, the last part will contain two short parts that the advisor threw back as being pieces of journalism, not academic pieces of writing. I actually took them as compliments. Oh yes. mercy cage - hymn
It's been some time since I last checked up on the New Zealand electro-industrial act Mercy Cage and if you haven't heard them, allow yourself the luxury of a few minutes to check on their MySpace for Hymn 01 (with video above), Prozac, God and the Atomic Bomb and finally, Needlemarks (& Scars), three amazing tracks in the long list of zonerun tracks. haile, the interactive robot percussionist
Haile is a robotic percussionist that can listen to live players, analyze their music in real-time, and use the product of this analysis to play back in an improvisational manner. It is designed to combine the benefits of computational power and algorithmic music with the richness, visual interactivity, and expression of acoustic playing. gibson's bridge city could become real
In a detailed proposal for what they call The Bay Line, the architects suggest the bridge could be a series of public parks with neighborhoods hanging beneath the bridge. This is a more suburban version of what happens in William Gibson's novel Virtual Light, where squatters take up residence on the bridge after it is partly destroyed. (via io9)

Loving Nicolas Petrou's Spring/Summer 2010 collection inspired by an illustration Sirichai completed for Geoffrey Beene. As usual, Petrou's use of patterned body tights offer distracting eye candy but there's no denying the ease and surprising wearability of his pieces. (via electro^plankton, below, a trailer of RAGE)
future funk squad - audio damage
With it´s uncompromising mix and blend of sounds and styles Audio Damage straddles hip hop to soul via breaks; a musical work out to challenge those with leanings in any genre. Best known for their remix work, Future Funk Squad had their breakthrough with a remix of club classic Raze - Break 4 Love. Head honcho Glen Nicholls, the producer/mastermind behind it all, has done remix work for such diverse acts as Moloko, Mint Royale, Lamb and The Stanton Warriors. Oh. You probably remember when I've gone haywire and started re-translating William Gibson's Neuromancer via translationparty.com, feeding sentences into an algorhythm that tried to find a balance between a seriously mangled Japanese and an even worse sounding English version of the original? Right. Here's the second part and if the original devs or Google actually used this project to outsource bugtesting, oh, they are doing it so right. Check the first sentence of the second paragraph beginning BSE high social Darwinism - the original sentence begins like Now he slept in the cheapest coffins, the ones nearest the port, beneath the quartz-halogen floods that lit the docks all night like vast stages... numerals are really, really grains of sand in the Universal Translation clockwork. Hideous and Perfect is packaged in a gloss laminated gatefold cardboard wallet that has been custom designed to house a CD, 16 page artwork booklet and poster (36cm x 36cm). The poster features a unique typographic layout of the lyrics which have been printed in silver ink. Bold typography and arresting photography by Helen White typifies the CD artwork booklet. Brainmove, creative mind between the YouTube-based Japanese cyberpunk series Penfield's Electrode has just mailed me the link to the new episode that's been deceivingly entitled 1.1, not part 2. Laura Mulleavy told WWD she didn't sleep last night because she was so nervous about the Rodarte show — inspired by the singed Death Valley and "mangled and tattered" black vultures — today, but she had nothing to fear. The room was packed for her and her sister Kate's Spring 2010 collection debut; crunchy black sand was on the floor, dry ice smoke filled the room, and a musky scent wafted through the room as part of a collaboration with fragrance company Firmenich (...) every model had her arms painted with makeup to appear like tribal tattoes, goth lips, and their hair wrapped in webbed wool.
