Gargaj, head honcho of demogroup Conspiracy sent this tutorial our way. If you remember their 64k demo CHAOS THEORY (below) that also won a Honorary Mention award at the Ars Electronica Prix 2007, then I'm sure it's not just the pure perfection that drilled your head but also the killer grinding bassline. Here's how to do that - beware, that's some modular synth meddling in there! (And if I remember well, Gargaj said it was pretty much Black Sun Empire's Arrakis that was a great inspiration.)

Olyannyira, hogy idén februárban a készítésért felelős AG8 rövid, ámbár kevéssé felkapott sajtóhírben közölte: nincs pénz a projektre (itt van amúgy egy egészen érdekes beszélgetés a Purefoldról). Aki hiányolja a Deckard-ízű városképet és nem akar a sweded kínai ételstandok között ballonkabátban izzadni és esőre várni esténként az Arany János utca környéki banknegyedben, annak van remény: a Total Recall 2070 sorozat ugyanezt a világot hozza, köze csak nagyon távolról van a ZS-filmek között is büszkén izmozó Schwarzenegger-klasszikushoz és ráadásul az elmúlt hetekben lett CC-kezelt.

The video for Gantz Graf received widespread attention - perhaps more so than any previous output from Autechre; in interviews, Alex Rutterford stated that it achieved cult status in underground computer-generated imagery art circles. The video features an abstract object (or an agglomeration of objects) synchronized to the sounds in the music as it morphs, pulsates, shakes, and finally dissolves. Alex Rutterford (who had previously created an unofficial video for the Tri Repetae track "Eutow" as part of the Channel 4 music programme Lo-Fi in 2001) claims the idea for the "Gantz Graf" video came during one of his LSD trips. Rutterford also stated that there was no generative element to the imagery; every three-dimensional object in the agglomeration was painstakingly and manually synchronised with a specific element or frequency range within the track. ninjas, matryoshkas, leftovers
The past few weeks (and the upcoming one more month) is like trying to speed into five different lanes simulteanously. Challenging, to say the least. Not much more to share - yet, for the time being -, but here's one thing the cat dragged in during an idea-gathering session for a work I'm doing. And it has, apparently, a few things to do with ninja matryoshkas. Seriously, if I'm working with ninja matryoshkas during my day shift and writing music reviews by night, I really should light a few incense sticks in gratitude. Mental note to myself. On another note, though, any ideas or practical solutions for destroying writer's block will be appreciated.

The legend of Ong Bak 3 begins after Tien (Tony Jaa) has lost his fighting skills and his beloved stepfather at the Garuda's Wing cliff from the raid led by Jom Rachan (Saranyu Wonggrajang). we explore the aesthetic archetypes of cyberpunk with the backdrop of a large, sprawling metropolis, neon & smoke and the reconfiguration of the human body through machines
Nothing extremely special, but most of the archetypes are laid and presented nicely. Violet Suk and Martin Koch, if you check out their previous reels on Vimeo, turn out to be great talent magnets: they did a few music videos for Fetish 69, Fuckhead and Bunny Lake, worked multiple times with the Sci Fi channel and did a few very short movies as well, one of them being Retina, as presented on JazJaz. Another quite cyberpunkish work of theirs is Simulacra, embedded below.
analog: ebbëto's brazilian sci-fi short is raw, minimalist and monochrome (and just a trailer)
ANALOG is a 27 min, black and white, Science Fiction film made in 2009. This short extract features the music of OIL 10 "Passagen", by the French electronic music composer, Gilles Rossire.
The film tells the tale of a machine travelling in deep-space which has as a primary function the preservation of a living organism: a man.
Strange events with biblical analogies begin, disturbing the machine and making it rethink it's priorities.ANALOG is probably the first authentic Brazilian Science Fiction film and it's currently competing in world wide short film festivals. Blend half a kilo of oldschool cyberpunk vision with fashion design along the Japanese/French sociocultural axis, tint it grey and red, add a completely mediocre pop song to it and there you go - Russian freelancer journalist, self-acclaimed cyberpunk @zeroscore says it looks like Neuromancer and Idoru, @greatdismal retweets. I'm really curious about your take on the best/most original take on cyberpunk in the music video industry. No, AMVs and anime intro song sequences do not count.
limbo: german expressionism meets the indie game industry
LIMBO, one of the most captivating titles to emerge from the tidal waves of indie platformers appears on XBLA this Summer. If you want a brief summary, some amazing visuals and gameplay, check out the GDC 2010 interview with one of the creators, Mads Wibroe. ov futuristic sacred spaces and laziness
Basic photographic technique is sufficient to capture the beauty and strength of a subject. That's what photographer Christoph Morlinghaus says when asked about his work with churches and sacred spaces he takes photos of. Does that make me oldschool when I believe that even with student level technology you can make award-winning pictures if your mind had already taken them and the photos are just secondary renderings? Taking it two steps forward, does it mean that newschool is predestined to forget even when all technology is literally at their fingertips and in their pants? Being a herald for neckbreaking speed for the last decade (and then some) it's sort of strange to nod at all that. Just ponder but a minute on that. There is one thing that keeps the world as it is, one thing that acts better than any universal glue ever invented: and that's laziness. If you're lazy, you'll never open the front door and venture out and see what's there you've never touched or never could because there was no effort to reach anywhere. Oh. Yes. connected: a danish post-apocalyptic western short
Set in the distant future, Connected is a story about survival and greed with a post apocalyptic wasteland as its backdrop. Survivors of an unknown disaster shuffle through a desolate landscape, as it quickly becomes clear that not everybody has the strength to survive. predators trailer (2010)
Before getting on to the bandwagon of wetting our eyes diligently about how oldschool film franchises make a comeback: Robert Rodriguez and Hungarian film director Antal Nimrod team up on making a strong name out of the Predator race again. Check the trailer, the whole world is turning on its head in July with Laurence Fishburne narrating our cosmic incapabilities.
deus ex 3 trailer (deus ex: human revolution)
The game takes place during the year 2027, 25 years before Deus Ex. Nanotechnological augmentations have yet to be developed and biomechanical augmentations are the current state of the art. The main character, Adam Jensen, is a private security officer with a company that specializes in these augmentations. He witnesses a chilling attack on his company, and "the conspiracy begins. (...) Five metropolises are included and Detroit, Shanghai and Montreal have been confirmed. In addition, the protagonist will have his own apartment where he may store his secrets and collected information. (...) The trailer ends with "More to come at E3 2010", which indicates that the game will be shown at E3 2010.
beastie boys - sabotage (battlestar galactica edit)
Start the Friday night before party here. Beastie Boys' classic Sabotage reworked with footage coming from Battlestar Galatica. As both my sources, Kotaku and Neatorama write the same thing, I sort of feel shamefully obliged to add the very same stuff they did, you can watch it side-by-side with the original version. tron legacy: new trailer out, software ends up sexy, the industry screams for a new matrix
Jeans, arcades, motorbikes on voltage gridlines - this was The Matrix back in the eighties, when Disney did cyberpunk right. (With Surrogates, they did harm.) Fashionista design orgies, lightning and style over substance - this is The Matrix after the visual department guys can't outdo themselves. We've seen all and the sum of all those parts will eventually grow incomprehensibly huge, especially in iMAX 3D, our eyes will water neon and we will crouch into a zen spider pod until the 17th of December. Rip up IO9 for a still-by-still reconstruction, here's the downloadable trailer in a few HD resolutions and don't forget to check out Flynn Lives.

augmented sculpture is an art installation that combines three-dimensional sculpture and 2-D projections by lichtfront and grosse8. the project was recently presented at imm cologne 2010 where viewers could see the piece in action. the project consists of an abstract geometric form that is spiky and jagged all over. max headroom finally comes to dvd
Shout! Factory has a "Max Headroom" complete-series DVD set slated for August, according to a spokesperson. Episodes are being transferred from their original elements to provide the best quality, and Shout! Factory is planning a robust range of extras for the set. Bonus content may include the original U.K. telefilm 20 Minutes Into the Future, upon which the series is based, though nothing has been confirmed. (via io9 via home media magazine)
tron legacy trailer debuts next friday together with alice
Disney's first cyberpunk franchise TRON is making an everything-but-fast comeback: the movie itself is set to debut this December - the second trailer (or more like, the first trailer that's not called TR2N but Tron:Legacy) debuts next Friday with the US release of Alice in Wonderland, sez Wired. According to Kotaku, parts of the 2-minutes trailer are in IMAX 3D, Daft Punk is heavily involved with the production of the film and they might even appear in cameo roles and we'll also see Recognizers and "two Matrix-looking potential bad guys, one fierce looking female and one Space Oddity era David Bowie lookalike playing a little digital air guitar". Check the concept teaser every now and then until the 5th of March.
mvrdv watercube pavillion for korean world expo
The 2010 Shanghai World Expo hasn’t even begun yet but we’re already starting to see designs roll in for the 2012 World Expo in Yeosu, Korea! MVRDV just released plans for their own mesmerizing Water Cube pavilion, an H2O-filled structure designed to express the power and beauty of the oceans.
