banlieue 13: ultimatum
David Belle is back! The number one traceur, the founder of parkour re-appears on the big screen from the 18th of February with his new movie Banlieue 13: Ultimatum. The sequel to the 2004 parkour movie B13 also features Cyril Raffaelli (B13, Ronin, Kiss of the Dragon, Yamakasi, The Transporter).
- For parkour lovers: Mirror's Edge (the game) is released on 13/01/2009.

fishnet: underground goth comics from 2004
Back in 2004 I thought getting into the comics business would not be so bad after all - that was time when I got into the habit of following back upon the more obscure pieces of Warren Ellis (like City of Silence), Chaos! Comics (an anything-goes extravaganza of DD+ tits and blood) and Jhonen Vasquez. Especially Vasquez. (And Dirge's Lenore.) That was the time when I came up with the first 20 pages of Fishnet, a grotesque black-and-white Goth comics series deeply rooted in zombies, kung fu and mad cow disease, peppered with parties and huge automobiles that chew up roadways instead of rolling on them. The first four pages (drawn by a graphic artist named Bride) were published in an underground comics anthology entitled PTSD - and unfortunately that's just a Hungarian release, no PDFs. (Hungarian review here, db entry on kepregeny.net) Just found these pages and I thought it would be fun to share all these once again - with a small tribute paid to Vasquez, in fact.
ghost in the shell 2.0: a beauty thoroughly buttfucked
If you haven't spent the last decade nailing twelve gauge ass squirrels to the local church warden's shed, you are aware that 攻殻機動隊, better known as Ghost in the Shell is a milestone in the up-and-coming popcultural zeitgeist of the nineties. Balanced between the chock-full action wet-dream Asian cityscape of the twentysomething era and the mindlessly perdu monologues of robotic existentialism, the movie came to be something of epic proportions on a 10/10 scale. The dialogues - both in English and Japanese - are regularly sampled in the electronic scene, the dramaturgy is well set, the voice acting (and the selection of Japanese seiyuus, voice actors) is exemplary. The movie is still a classic in the cyberpunk pantheon, giving birth to a chain of movies (such as the Matrix) and a rare example of marvel. Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence boasted a better, CG-enhanced graphic style and a tsunami of harder-to-follow philosophic rants, while the two Ghost in the Shell: Standalone Complex TV series leant more into the faster-executed anime SF look with a better storyline (compared to Innocence, at least and the same stands for the Standalone Complex movie as well). All in all, a decent and thought-provoking, well-rounded franchise. That's just been buttfucked by an enhanced version called Ghost in the Shell 2.0 (DVD release date in Japan is 19/12/2008).

Angelspit Zoog's been blipverting and blogging for a time and the fans were pretty eager to see DestroyX before the cameras. The blog destroyx.com has been public since today and I tell you - it's pretty much a fanboy's research material: lots of personal photos, design ideas and the first video posts of many to come. max headroom: classic 80s cyberpunk pilot episode on google video
Max Headroom is intense, harsh and somewhat obscure - the first almost British cyberpunk TV series that ever surfaced (and one that had a pretty huge impact on the European hoodies-and-mirrorshades subculture) apparently still doesn't deserve a decent DVD release. (I previously said Max Headroom's a British series and I'm almost right about that, the original movie, 20 Minutes into the Future the US series was based upon was actually coming out of Britain's trippy mind.) Last week I had this article on finding full-length feature movies and TV series on videosharing sites and that's the first droplet of many (actually, if we consider good SF and cyberpunk, not that many) - Google Video has the first US (sort of pilot) episode of Max Headroom. If you're not living in the technically and accesswise pretty much buttfucked .hu area, Joost also has the Blipverts episode. Eat funky trivia on maxheadroom.com.

Gibson monstrózusan hosszú életrajzi költeményét, az Agrippa: A Book of the Dead-et keresztülrágták már a kérődző, patás akadémikusnövendékek, csodájára jártak, hogy a verset tartalmazó Mac-diskette csak egyszerolvasható, a képernyőn nemcsak scrollozik a vers, hanem egy szubrutin ezt menet közben kódolja is (mindezt 1992-ben), született belőle rengeteg esszé (egyetem óta megfogadtam, hogy nagyon kevés ilyet fogok olvasni, Marilouise Krokernél mindig megbánom, hogy), videóra is vették mindezt, fent ez látszik, teljes hosszban, természetesen a szövegből semmi sem olvasható a kisfelbontás miatt, de a szöveget fentebb úgyis linkeltem, a The Agrippa Files archívból meg mindenki kimazsolázza magának így vasárnap késő délelőtt a szükségességet, én most nem. Elszaladt velem a csatakos vizuálkultúrális ló - a demoscene.tv instant gratification, a napi munkát úgy végzem két képernyő előtt, hogy az egyiken nyolc órából legalább hatban visuk futnak, hogy jobban tudjak fókuszálni a legsúlyosabb poénokat felhozó office quadrantban (meg mert nyilván jól néz ki, a főnökségnek a fraktálalagutak tetszenek a legjobban), aztán ahogy a tranzitblogos cikkem óta kicsivel jobban ránéztem a Processingre, azóta nem hagy nyugodni, instantwant lett az Advanced Beauty DVD (ez egy hosszabb Pingmag-anyag videókkal, a lenti videó, Jelle Feringa munkája is innen jön), a Spotworks meg az olyan könyvek, mint a VJ: Audio-Visual Art and VJ Culture meg a vE-jA: Art + Technology of Live Audio-Video.
Az első fekvőrendőr nyilván ott jön, hogy kell beszerezhető resource, nézed az Amazont egy darabig, hogy most megrendeld-e a hardcovert vagy ne rendeld meg, több könyv is van, még rosszabb, megjön-e Karácsonyig vagy majd ünnepek között kell becaplatnod hegynek fel a csomagodért, Eno szóljon-e közben, hogy fel bírj menni vagy Noisia, aztán jön az ötlet, hogy miért nem nézed meg a Scribden inkább, könyveket ott is érdemes mostanában keresni és voilá: a Processing-guru Reas és Fry könyvéből fent van egy nagyobb excerpt, Ira Greenberg Processing: Creative Coding and Computational Art című darabja pedig teljes hosszban terpeszkedik, úgyhogy lehet nézni és tölteni a bölcsességet, bekötöm mindkét embedet, hogy többet köhögjön a gépetek, kommentezni nem képes, savanyú banda!
