the pre-Sziget video voltage bouquet
Originally heralded as video bukkake but then you would have hulkhogan your way into morality. Voltage bouquet sounds more posh. So here's a tour video of Skrillex (thx Sinred!) whose anthem Kill Everybody has quickly become our summer household item and clearly looks like a contestant to anything Headhunterz has done in the past twelve months.
RAGE, slated for release in North America on October 4th, features intense first-person shooter action, breakneck vehicle combat, an expansive world to explore and jaw-dropping graphics powered by id's revolutionary id Tech 5 technology. Set in the not-too-distant future after an asteroid impacts Earth, you emerge into a vast wasteland to discover humanity working to rebuild itself against such forces as bandit gangs, mutants, and more. Obviously reads a lot like Fallout to me.
A release date for the gesture-based adventure game Trauma has been announced: the triple-nominated 2010 IGF finalist will be available to purchase for 5 Euros starting this August 8th. Windows, Mac and Linux users can try the game online for free at traumagame.com, and you can also buy Trauma from Steam (both Windows and Mac) on launch day. (via kotaku)
BlueDanube Films: Eric Roberts in Hungarian dark urban thriller Lord of the Block
This just came in via @Dawe_, our courier of fast cars, fast conspiracy theories and news of importance. BlueDanube Films (apparently based in Budapest, Hungary, so I gotta make some exclusive backstage shots and interviews while I'm still in the city!), a relatively new film company that plans to create micro-budget films (the PRlog mentions 500K-1M euro budgets, is that actually considered micro?) is now working on Lord of the Block (see stuff below) that features Eric "Maroni survives fall, walks away with broken knees" Roberts, script's worked on by Balazs Lovas (Run to Ground) and Gabor Krigler (Born Loser). Curious to hear more about that one, stay vigilant, brothers! (via prlog)
“Lord of the Block” is a dark urban mythic thriller about a disaffected young man’s discovery of a man-like creature living in his apartment building. The creature/man named “Artur” seems to be able to control the emotions of the apartment inhabitants, feeding off of their negative emotions. Although initially entranced by Artur’s abilities, and the fact that Artur wants the young man, Tomi, to become Artur’s apprentice, Tomi finds himself in a battle against the “Lord of the Block”, and the darkness that he stands for.
weekend sf short film: PRISM
This one comes from Riplakoidase, CorridorDigital's short film about how a lab prototype gets stolen with fairly good action, Halflife2ish drone soldier vocoders and some nice light effects done with HitFilm.

cars will be grown, not manufactured

Weekend in the PDHQ, growing quite fond of anything that helps with dropping down the 40 centigrades to anything less than 40. I'm posting this with all my organs from waist down in the fridge. I've had worse. Source comes from Dawe_ (and yes, that's a Dezeen post) whose love for naga jolokia is only surpassed by his love for weird cars, especially something like this - one that's grown and it produces its own fuel from algae. And with a virus (or a bad system update) it could basically assimilate you for a tire and a better windshield. Come to think about, I know people whose only use in life could be a transfiguration into a better windshield. While you're thinking whether you're that kind of person or not (if you're reading this, you're probably not and I'm not diplomatically nice about that either), grab a coffee and expect the PD comeback soonish! azo: full-body martial arts motion controller
I play a lot of video games on all gaming platforms. I was skeptical about the Kinect last year but the whole controller free full-body motion experience turned out to be enjoyable.
I also found out that good old fashion wired controllers already support fully-body motions. In fact these old controllers are pretty fun to play with, even if you don't own a console or a TV. (via kotaku)
mater suspiria vision - seduction of the armageddon witches
-This new video is written and directed by Diego Barrera and takes the themes of Mater Suspiria Vision to an exciting new level. Two of my personal favorite directors, Parajanov and Jodorowsky come to mind as we move away from CdX’s appropriated cult-horror and into Barrera’s vision which delves into the realm of Transcendental Cinema.-

the backwater gospel
Bachelor film project 2011 from The Animation Workshop. As long as anyone can remember, the coming of The Undertaker has meant the coming of death. Until one day the grim promise fails and tension builds as the God fearing townsfolk of Backwater wait for someone to die. (Thx, dsila!)
aldious: little devil butterflies (yes, ageha-kei)

The members dig video games and were there to check out the game's co-op mode. Aldious is an up-and-coming girls rock band. That's not a first for Japan, but from first appearances, they'd look more at home in a hostess bar. Make no mistake, these gals rock.
Formed in Osaka in 2008, indie band Aldious began with Rami on vocals and Yoshi on guitar, but had fleshed out its current line-up by last year. The group released its first CD single themselves, self-recorded and distributed in Osaka music shops, where it quickly sold out. Last fall, the girls released their debut full-length album, Deep Exceed. (via kotaku)

damage's razor coated candies #08
Hello. This is another birthday. Apparently it's the end of another hexadecimal cycle. According to my friends, the very first one. And who am I to disagree with vanity. Hehe. Seriously. We're back with another Razor Coated Candies, a heartbreakingly versatile compilation of music you can make friends and enemies with. This week brings it's less goth and more hipster electro (nah, just kidding) and I've gone to lengths to cut off previous ties to anything morose, just because I didn't have the time to get down to the bottom of the well now. By the way, have a nice week.

Edgar Davey - Singularity (experimental video with Kattoo soundtrack)
The project started in the end of May 2011, when I contacted Kattoo, asking if I could use his music for my animation. After getting his approval , I was jumping and dancing around my laptop in joy. If only I knew how much trouble I just got myself into. I am kidding of course, however every step of creation was hard. First of all when I decided what I want to do considering animation, I had no clue how to approach my idea. But thanks to the internet and people out there I was slowly getting my answers. Another problem was in hardware. My old Macbook was working days and nights. I was taking me about 30-35 hours to render one scene. And if I found out that I made a mistake somewhere, I had to do everything all over again. (via vimeo)

Atari Teenage Riot's "Is This Hyperreal?" and the Budapest live
It's been eleven years since the collective anger persona of Atari Teenage Riot took the sonic equivalent of a violent blow to your head with a diamond drill. But they're back now with Is This Hyperreal? and through the exclusive stream on NME, the new album is basically everywhere. And Alec Empire has just retweeted this video compilation. Which is yet another reason to go out and buy this album when it comes out in June (June 7th, to be precise). It is loud, splintered and hysterically loud! Below - some 45 minutes of the Budapest gig. I'll need to get both my head and body around this album but thankfully half the office is down after getting to Codebreaker, so it officially qualifies as a sonic weapon.

Neuromancer finally in pre-production: read more about previous producer hell

The Neuromancer movie, the very essence of SF's past 25 years in terms of hardcore ideas and inspiration is starting to look like Duke Nukem 3D - all concept art, production tidbits and status reports but no actual stuff to prove things are past the paperwork discussion and the creative process. Brace yourselves, we have a new contender in the arena. According to the news coming straight from our friends at QuietEarth, there's been a fatality - Joseph Kahn is off the list and Canadian SF director Vincenzo Natali has the blessing of the pope of cyberpunk himself. Here are the steps that led us right to this point.
Yes. This is May 19th, 2011 now and this article has been posted in the Paris issue of The Dose mag approximately a year ago. Still, the QuietEarth guys just posted today that the Neuromancer movie is now officially in pre-production so to avert the hex of production hell (so to say), here's a brief summary of what happened so far. Do enjoy.

Thane bust from the Mass Effect universe

Were this a 3D render of Mass Effect 2's Thane, it would be impressive. Thing is, it's not. This is a tangible, old-fashioned sculpt. Get a load of the detail! (via kotaku)
YES. Neuromancer in pre-production!
Seven Arts Pictures and GFM Films announced today that "Neuromancer," written and directed by Vincenzo Natali and adapted from the William Gibson best-selling novel, has secured sales from distributors in the first three days of Cannes. Territories licensed include: South Korea and Thailand, Taiwan, China, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, and India, CIS, Poland, and the Middle East.

The film will be a Canadian-European co-production with principal photography occurring in Canada, Istanbul, Tokyo, and London. Work on the visual effects has already begun, with an anticipated start date in the first quarter of 2012," said Kate Hoffman, Chief Operating Officer of Seven Arts.
