five minutes of nolan's inception online
Inception has already been hailed as one of the best science fiction movies of the decade. Until the crew manages to watch it in the upcoming days and give a review about it, here's five minutes of Nolan's apparent mastery. (via io9)

alan e. nourse / williams s. burroughs - pengefutár

AVP:Redemption fan film made by me Alex A. Popov for the purpose of entertaining the fans of both , Alien and Predator franchises, and also to share my vision of what Alien VS Predator film should be. The total budget for this film was about $500 and over 2 years of my free time :) It took so long cause it was a ONE MAN project. I did all filming, directing, Editing, VFX compositing, sound design, You name it. So hopefully you enjoyed it. (via vimeo)
Link comes from Kotaku and trust me, anyone with even a little bit of interest for the AvP franchise will agree with the majority of the commenters. It is cheesy, amateur and it has more effort, interest and striving for something memorable and whole than the whole franchise previously. It's funny, you see. With the AvP movies you will remember and appreciate certain scenes only, though you'll say the whole movie sucked in general. With Popov's work it's just the other way round. And from 500 bucks? Seriously. We bow down to this guy.

Többet a quietearth.us cikkéből, katt.
christopher nolan's inception: the third trailer
What's the most resilient parasite? An idea. A single idea from the human mind can build cities. An idea can transform the world and rewrite all the rules. Which is why I have to steal it. Your mind has always been the best zone for Constructplay (in fact, mind IS Constructplay) and Nolan has always been one of the best directors to meddle with how your mind works. Been keeping an eye on Inception, his latest movie to be screened in July, a so-called sci-fi actioner in the architecture of the mind.. sounds like The Matrix or Dark City so far. Subconscious security, stealing ideas.. very much something I'd love to read about in a Richard Morgan book. But I am off to finalize some six different articles, so here's what the Guardian tells you about Inception, thank you, disperse, there's nothing else original to read in here. Send me links.

Acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan directs an international cast in an original sci-fi actioner that travels around the globe and into the intimate and infinite world of dreams. Dom Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) is a skilled thief, the absolute best in the dangerous art of extraction, stealing valuable secrets from deep within the subconscious during the dream state, when the mind is at its most vulnerable. Cobb's rare ability has made him a coveted player in this treacherous new world of corporate espionage, but it has also made him an international fugitive and cost him everything he has ever loved. Now Cobb is being offered a chance at redemption. One last job could give him his life back but only if he can accomplish the impossible – inception. Instead of the perfect heist, Cobb and his team of specialists have to pull off the reverse: their task is not to steal an idea but to plant one. If they succeed, it could be the perfect crime. But no amount of careful planning or expertise can prepare the team for the dangerous enemy that seems to predict their every move. An enemy that only Cobb could have seen coming. This summer, your mind is the scene of the crime.
analog: ebbëto's brazilian sci-fi short is raw, minimalist and monochrome (and just a trailer)
ANALOG is a 27 min, black and white, Science Fiction film made in 2009. This short extract features the music of OIL 10 "Passagen", by the French electronic music composer, Gilles Rossire.
The film tells the tale of a machine travelling in deep-space which has as a primary function the preservation of a living organism: a man.
Strange events with biblical analogies begin, disturbing the machine and making it rethink it's priorities.ANALOG is probably the first authentic Brazilian Science Fiction film and it's currently competing in world wide short film festivals. (more on vimeo, recommendation coming from the connoisseur of the weird monochrome monogatari and other assorted hallucinations, quietearth.us)
UPDATE 1: Is it just me or does the screencap really resemble to "The Eyes of Stanley Pain" album cover by Download?

connected: a danish post-apocalyptic western short

Set in the distant future, Connected is a story about survival and greed with a post apocalyptic wasteland as its backdrop. Survivors of an unknown disaster shuffle through a desolate landscape, as it quickly becomes clear that not everybody has the strength to survive. (via quietearth.us) The movie is accessible only via ov43.com, it's not yet on video sharing sites. For more info, check the Connected Facebook group.

predators trailer (2010)
Before getting on to the bandwagon of wetting our eyes diligently about how oldschool film franchises make a comeback: Robert Rodriguez and Hungarian film director Antal Nimrod team up on making a strong name out of the Predator race again. Check the trailer, the whole world is turning on its head in July with Laurence Fishburne narrating our cosmic incapabilities.
beastie boys - sabotage (battlestar galactica edit)
Start the Friday night before party here. Beastie Boys' classic Sabotage reworked with footage coming from Battlestar Galatica. As both my sources, Kotaku and Neatorama write the same thing, I sort of feel shamefully obliged to add the very same stuff they did, you can watch it side-by-side with the original version. Now we cook up the magnificient chili of death.
renegade soundwave meets blade runner (sez alec empire)
There is only one better thing in the classic urban landscape scene of Blade Runner with the geisha ads and the furnaces synced to the gorgeous space ambient of Vangelis: the very same thing synced to Blast'em Out by Renegade Soundwave. Alec Empire always recommends wicked stuff.
TO: ten free minutes of Fumihiko Sori's latest CG scifi anime
Avex uploaded a ten minute long clip from Fumihiko Sori’s Sci-Fi CG Anime TO to youTube. Technically, this doesn’t look much better than Vexille but maybe TO will have more to offer on the story side since it’s based on Yukinobu Hoshino’s 2001 Nights (2001 Ya Monotogari) manga series. (...) TO will be released in two episodes, Symbiotic Planet and Elliptical Orbit on DVD and Blu-ray Disc in Japan on December 18, 2009. (via affenheimtheater, a fantastic blog you should really delve into - amazing things there!
star wars burlesque

There's a reason why Courtney Cruz always performs last at Devil's Playground events and it's not simply because she founded the burlesque troupe. Her costumes, designed by Carlos Flores, are consistently over-the-top and heavily detailed, in this instance, down to the Stormtrooper pasties. She performed to Front 242's industrial dance hit "Headhunter." You should have been there. However, if you weren't, Devil's Playground will repeat the show on March 13. (via laweekly via boingboing)
dubai: xero error, dubai 2010 and the star wars mockups

I wanted you to see Cédric Delsaux's Dubai Star Wars mockups first. IO9 has a longer post for you with all the construction images Delsaux so eloquently filled with Vaders, AT-ATs and Jawas. Among other geeky boytoys.
This satire of the classic Hollywood movie trailer was created by Dubai-based post-production house Rolling Thunder. The tongue-in-cheek clip depicts a futuristic Dubai, complete with skyscrapers, space shuttles and underwater space stations. The creative concept, script and all VFX shots were done in-house, supervised by Hermann Venter and Henrik Friberg. (read io9's comments for the starship homages)
In the future Artificial intelligence [AI] is superceded by Natural intelligence [NI]. The story centers on XE7, a cyborg on a spiritual journey who discovers the unknown. He begins to realize that things in recorded history contradict with facts he has observed in real life and begins to open up his mind to the supernatural. He finds himself in the wrong place at the wrong time, at a major crime scene, leading him to a Cyber-terrorism scandal and trouble with FACET - The First Authority in Cyber Espionage and Terrorism. Packaged as a slick, futuristic thriller, the compelling storyline keeps you guessing till the end. (xero-error.com, extra info in the article via thenational.ae)
UPDATE 1: Just seeing there was a SF short released in Dubai entitled Alliance, any more infos about that, anyone? (The film, set in the 24th century, begins with a planet under attack from a shadowy extra terrestrial race who launch brutal and inexplicable raids on Earth at the same time that a decades-old anarchist movement plunges the planet into cycles of terrorist attacks and destruction.)
2009, missing post #15: the lady gaga david lachapelle photo shoot

Part The Winter Market, part Metropolis.. and you know the rest. Lady Gaga's new photo shoot with David Lachapelle - grab the rest here on the updated mashkulture link, including Tesla punishment coils and - how to effectively and cartoonishly fall out of a wheelchair. (M1k3y believes I triggered some malware alert with the celebritysmackblog link.)
2009, missing post #7: captain power and the soldiers of the future
It was 1987 and I was an eight-year old kid with an extra schedule in his life, one I took more seriously than brushing the teeth, cleaning the shoes and go to sleep at nine. It was waking up at six to get the best futuristic show available at that time (apart from Aeon Flux, of course): Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future. It is so oldschool you should all play this in the background today, let it seep back to your already exhausted brainmeat. As for the show - you can all grab the episodes on public video sites here and here or you could just order them right at captainpower.com.
2009, missing post #4: seeing science through fiction
You've heard the physicists speculate on parallel universes, space travel, and time travel. Now come and hear a physicist interview the real experts in these subjects: a bestselling science fiction writer and pioneer of virtual reality discuss what you get when you look at science through fiction. Featuring Lee Smolin, Jaron Lanier and Neal Stephenson. (via q2cfestival.com)
repo men remake comes in 2010 april, features law, whitaker, rza
Humans have extended and improved our lives through highly sophisticated and expensive mechanical organs created by a company called The Union. The dark side of these medical breakthroughs is that if you don’t pay your bill, The Union sends its highly skilled repo men to take back its property…with no concern for your comfort or survival.
Jude Law plays Remy, one of the best organ repo men in the business. But when he suffers a cardiac failure on the job, he awakens to find himself fitted with the company’s top-of-the-line heart-replacement…as well as a hefty debt. But a side effect of the procedure is that his heart’s no longer in the job. When he can’t make the payments, The Union sends its toughest enforcer, Remy’s former partner Jake (Academy Award® winner Forest Whitaker), to track him down.
Now that the hunter has become the hunted, Remy joins Beth (Alice Braga), another debtor who teaches him how to vanish from the system. And as he and Jake embark on a chase across a landscape populated by maniacal friends and foes, one man will become a reluctant champion for thousands on the run. (via quietearth.us)

Darren Lynn Bousman's REPO: THE GENETIC OPERA last year was a sine wave, high with its much-promising cast (from Skinny Puppy's Nivek Ogre to Alexa Vega, Sarah Brightman or even Paris Hilton), its fusion approach and the visuals, low with coherence and the lack of, well, anything to compel opera newbies to give themselves easily to its entirety. Whatever we missed - the cheesy, gory fun -, Miguel Sapochnik will put it back in his Repo Men remake - debuting on the 2nd of April, 2010 - featuring Jude Law, Forest Whitaker and even Master RZA himself!
SLINGERS: retro-futuristic action series, think firefly and cowboy bebop
“Slingers” could be summed up as Sizemore’s vision of Oceans 11 (we’re talking old school here) meets AI: Artificial Intelligence. Part heist, part drama, part action, it’s a gorgeously realized mix of 60s cool and futuristic design. The only problem is that this show isn’t off the ground yet. (via quietearth.us)
universal soldier: regeneration trailer
When a team of former Soviet radicals seizes Chernobyl and threatens to unleash a lethal cloud of radioactive gas one hundred times deadlier than Hiroshima and Nagasaki combined, the US military brings in a bio-mechanically enhanced super soldier, Luc Deveraux (Jean-Claude Van Damme), to foil the plot.
As Deveraux fights his way into the plant, he faces off with his now revived former nemesis, Andrew Scott (Dolph Lundgren), and a newly ‘updated’ Next Generation Unisol (former UFC Heavyweight Champion Andrei Arlovski), in a battle of battles, and must save the day. (via quietearth.us)
2b - the era of flesh is over
Set in the near future, 2B portrays a familiar decaying world on the cusp of great transformation and awesome wonders. The script is based upon real science and evolving technologies. When the world's first transhuman is created by a renegade corporate CEO and bioscientist, the foundations of society's beliefs are threatened in a transhuman world where man merges with technology. The ‘technohuman’ conundrum is the hottest and most controversial topic of this century. This film is an entertainment designed to jump-start the conversation about the moral and religious questions raised by the bio-tech revolution. What if you could die and live forever?
lila hús, rút, szibarita fémváz: hol tart a magyar cyberpunk?

Thx, Marvin!)

moon
Debut SF movie Moon directed by Duncan Jones is a well-executed ballistic hadouken. Get the cards right: the son of David Bowie drops a movie inspired by 2001: Space Odyssey and Blade Runner about how a 3-year long Moon maintenance job can turn into a nightmare in the last two weeks - including a weird doppelgänger, Sam Rockwell and a computer voiced by Kevin Spacey and a set designer from Alien, who's obviously not onscreen. But I surely digress.
The film's screened at Sundance this year, also in Los Angeles and New York on the 12th of June, Sony Pictures Classics starts commercial distribution from June 2009. (via io9)
