korko’s steampunk casemod

steampunkpolishmod.jpg

The aesthetical anomalies of the Polish language 0wned me. This is the reason for me not translating you the complete forum post behind the link (notice: scroll back for a long-long post littered with pics) about a steampunk case mod, one of the weirdest and best so far by korko_czong (if I’m not getting this right, comment me).

STriDER

Self-excited Tripedal Dynamic Experimental Robot aka STriDER, developed at Virginia Tech. 0.9 meters tall, they walk by placing their weight on two legs and then falling away from their third leg, turning their body upside down and catching their fall with the free leg. The robot is supposed be uber-stabile by using the tripod stance, you lock the joints and you don’t have the exercise any force for upkeep. Supposedly plants cameras at a later stage.

the second polish jukebox

More Polish music videos, because some of you cannot physically cope with it, whereas I managed to induce something similar to a cultural addiction to weird shit I find. Go have a drink. First one is KALIBER 44’s Normalnie O Tej Porze, Polish hiphop at its weirdest and best, a track we often played during the EstFM days (one of the cocksuckers there still owes me two complete months of salary, mental note made), second’s ELECTRIC RUDEBOYZ, a drum’n'bass liveact I just came across a couple of months ago - and I just found the third one at boingboing, that’s some weird-ass Bhangra music entitled Od Tarnobrzegu po Bangladesz by MASALA.

KALIBER 44 - Normalnie O Tej Porze

ELECTRIC RUDEBOYZ - Znowu Lato

MASALA - Od Tarnobrzegu Po Bangladesz

Protected sex in Chernobyl and judging by the EnglishRussia dates, this is quite old. With the novelty value the size of, well, you know what. With spikes and genitals grown just for goats. (Thx, Dawe!)

ERGO PROXY @ flickr

ergoproxyflickr.jpg

Part of an Ergo Proxy private photoshoot at flickr. URL on the pic leads to divideby0 that in turn leads to the complete Real gallery cosplayed by noiwontsayplease and then some weirdnesses like Cosmode 17 (with more detailed pics here cosplaying out Ibara Group), a slightly disturbing Katamari Damacy trio of alien babies and then, out of the blue, trailer for Ang Lee’s new movie Lust, Caution. (Below, episode 1 of Ergo Proxy.)

THE EPOXIES / BLADE LOKI

The Epoxies, a female-fronted punk band, mildly tweaked to get the chic new-edge taint, nothing special, not as energetic as Freekstar but sometimes quite catchy. Not a postworthy video, though, without the Polish metal/ska crossover Blade Loki whom I found looking for a completely fucked-up Diablo hack’n’slash clone.

THE EPOXIES - Synthesized

BLADE LOKI - No Pasaran

day 1, linz (spread yourself like sunlight)

fe_2007_augsculpture_001_s.jpgApproaching shock level. This year’s Ars Electronica in Linz teems with a load of weird, emotional and sensual Japanese technology, Christian technological inventions close to madness and quite a dozen of weird press people running around with their avatar names above their heads (transparent plastic is quite the method, I tell you). The town is splendid, otherwise, very intimate, the small alleyways and the cozy cafeterias almost make you feel like home. (Then you look out the window and see a beach modeled after one based in Second Life and its gets quite surreal.) Girls are gleaming and their coffee is quite a Hiroshima kind of assault.

Been checking out various exhibitions for seven hours now, the available DVD materials here are awesome beyond recognition. Day 1’s been awesome so far, a shitload of pictures taken, will start posting them tomorrow (or the day after tomorrow. Or when we get back. There’s no wifi at the guesthouse but we have lots of Austrian guys with bears and beers and noise. And then some more beer. This is slowly getting to me.) We almost crashed at the autobahn face front. Quite a memorable picture of a piece of machinery ass. Now we’re off to Second City at Marienstrasse.

METALOSIS MALIGNA

metalosis.jpg

Metalosis Maligna is a fictious documentary about a spectacular yet chronically disabling disease which affects patients who have been fitted with medical implants. Sourcing from such implants a wild metal growth ultimately transforms human patients into mechanical looking constructions.

the IT crowd is back

they are so back. ‘ere’s the wikipedia link, cuz i’m a sore hungarian bastard lazy to finger down what’s good for you. welcome to my lair, not that i’m some sort of an animal. or maybe i am. gorgeous. (this is a geek sitcom, by the way. bafta nomination. series 2 episode 1.). notice the goth man near 5:00.

The television skies of Chiba City branded his brains in 1992. He hasn't recovered fully since. Re-wired his brain with a few years of FastTracker, hosted radio shows on the first .hu netradio for 4 years, went on to broadcast radio for another two. Worked on the absurd radio series Kónuszék, that actually led him to become a script writer for the multiple-award winning animation Nyócker.

Started LD50 in 2001, an alternative community portal for some, a media experiment for him. DJ'd and organized for 6 years @ Budapest: the first weekly gothic/industrial clubnights, the VK/jrock Nippon Shoxx and the biggest local industrial/cyber party series called Kollektíva, among many. Key figure behind the cyberpunk PDF magazine THE DOSE and he's making a comeback with it.

He's currently an IT/science journalist, with a love for weird stuff, Asian cuisine, pop culture, energy drinks, coffee and chili, eyecandy, Japan and a life-long devotion to all things cyberpunk & slipstream.
